How Retractable Coil Tubing Works
The diameter of the coil is one of the most important factors in determining a coil’s retractability. The smaller the diameter, the more retractable the coil. The working length of a coil is generally a percentage of the total length of the material. Nylon and polyurethane allow the coil to be worked up to 80% of the material’s total length. The coil’s retracted length is the coil’s length without pig tails. This measurement may be important in applications where the coil rests over a pole.
Injector chain kit
A Retractable coil tubing injector chain is a hydraulic system that allows you to easily and safely insert the coiled tubing into your car’s engine. This hydraulic system uses a hydrostatic pump that provides oil to drive the injector chain’s motors and the injector reel. These chains are equipped with output regulators to maintain the correct oil pressure, and the hydraulic pump also controls the injector’s flow rate. The hydraulic pump also supplies an oil pressure to the coiled tubing, which converts the pressure into maximum torque. The coiled tubing is held in place with at least two pairs of gripper blocks.
The injector head includes two closed or endless chains loops, each of which is powered by a drive shaft. Each chain loop is composed of a set of roller chain links, which are part of the total chain loop assembly. They are connected by drive shafts that move the chain loops. Each loop includes a plurality of gripping blocks. Retractable coil tubing injector chains are designed to withstand high pressure and high temperatures, and the injector chain is easy to replace.
The Retractable coil tubing injector chain features two independent gripping elements, which are biased toward each other. The force generated by these grippers is applied to the tubing during transit through the injector. The rollers also reset themselves when the tubing enters the injector. This prevents the coil tubing from getting stuck and damaging the injector head. Moreover, the chain is designed to withstand high tension without adding to the stress on the chain.
Working length of a coil
The working length of a retractable coil depends on the material used and the diameter of the coil. For polyurethane and nylon, a working length of 80-90% of the material’s total length is possible. For other materials, working length can be as small as 67-75% of the total length. Retracted length, on the other hand, is the coil’s length without the pig tails. It can be an important factor in some applications, as the coil may be resting over a pole.
Retractable coiled tubing has distinct advantages over wireline techniques in drilling and well intervention. In addition to being used for circulation of treatment fluids, coiled tubing can be used to push equipment through highly deviated wellbores, past restrictions and to fish for lost equipment. Using coiled tubing is particularly advantageous for well logging operations, which usually use tools that store data in memory. Other logging operations use optional cables to provide surface power.
Coiled tubing sheath 40
The sheath used to wrap coiled tubing is called a’sheath’. The sheath is made of a polyurethane material called ‘polyurethane’, and it has a high kink resistance and memory. The’sheath’ can be made of different materials, depending on their purpose. Polyurethane was first developed by a German chemist in 1937 and gained popularity as a rubber substitute during World War II. The material was then used to create stretchable lightweight fabrics, including Spandex.
One embodiment of a’sheath’ has a lining layer that is made from a resilient plastic. The lining layer reduces the volume of the wrapped envelope, and limits movement of the contents within. The’sheath’ is generally puncture resistant. A’sheath’ can also be used to package a medical grade tubing. The’sheath’ is a protective sheath for tubing, and is able to keep a medical-grade plastic tube from becoming damaged.
Another type of’sheath’ is a coiled tubing connector. The coiled tubing is wrapped around the tool and then secured using side-mounted set screws. In order for this connector to be a good seal, a pressure seal needs to form between the coiled tubing and the connector. Some tools run in BHA and actuate when the ball lands.
Connectors for coiled tubing include’shear’ rams and’slip’ rams. Slip rams are designed to cut the coiled tubing when there is an emergency. While pipe rams do not seal, they do close around the coiled tubing string and provide a stop shoulder. They are also useful for connecting coiled tubing to a variety of other well tools.
Injector head
The retractable coil tubing for injector head comprises a plurality of loops connected by chain-like sections. This configuration permits the tubing to transit into and out of the well. The chain-like sections are driven by at least three cylinders with a parallel, substantially straight length. These drive loops are coupled to a series of multifunctional links that transmit the drive from a sprocket.
Injector heads are often coiled in order to reach a great depth within the wellbore and are repeatedly cycled over a short distance. Operators control the length and speed of the coiled tubing, which is in turn held within the wellbore by the injector head. The present invention relates to a solution to chain loops. The injector head should grip the tubing while being moved within the wellbore.
Retractable coil tubing for injector heads are mounted on a subframe. One side of the subframe is hinged, while the other rests on a load cell. Forces exerted by the drive system are distributed along the centerline of the tubing, causing the subframe to pivot. A weight indicator on the control panel registers the weight of the coiled tubing and Bottom Hole Assembly.
Retractable coil tubing for injector heads are typically equipped with three or four chain loops. This ABOP provides a seal during tripping and also provides a static seal in the event of tool tripping. In addition, it prevents long coiled tubing tool strings from being tripped out of the well by an errant piston. A tool deployment system enables long coiled tubing tool strings to be retrieved without the use of an extra large crane.
Polyurethane coiled tubing
The self-storing, retractable nature of coiled tubing has made it a popular choice for many medical and non-medical uses. Polyurethane (PUR) coiled tubing has a great memory, makes it flexible, and is tough. Retractable polyurethane (PUR) coils are particularly useful for medical applications, and can withstand working pressures up to 140 psi.
Retractable polyurethane tubing is available in two types: ester-base and ether-base. Both have the same basic ingredients, but polyol alcohol is less expensive. Fre-Thane(r) is a brand of polyol that is produced by Freelin-Wade. The company produces two types of polyurethane coiled tubing: ether-base and ester-based.
